Georgia - Cradle of Wine

Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. On the fertile valleys of the South Caucasus, according to historians, the culture of the wine was originated in the Neolithic period - more than 7000 years BC. With such a long history, traditions of viticulture and winemaking are closely intertwined with national identity of Georgians. Georgians say: "Guest of God." And we are pleased to invite you to Georgia, you to be able to touch the divine elixir, to become a part of the Georgian legends and take a step toward eternity, and maybe to immortality.

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi

Meet at the airport. Transfer to a hotel and short rest. Tbilisi half-day city tour: Tbilisi sightseeing with a walking tour in Old Town and Rustaveli Avenue (downtown) and visits to historical places such as: 4th century Narikala fortress, Sulfur baths houses, 7th century Sioni Cathedral, 6th century Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in the town.

Welcome dinner in Georgian restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2: Tbilisi – BodbeSighnaghi– Gurjaani – Telavi

Breakfast at the hotel. An unforgettable wine trip to Kakheti – the main wine-growing region of Georgia where you can learn everything connected with viticulture and wine-making. Drive to Sighnaghi - a small beautiful city in Kiziqi (part of Kakheti region), famous as the “City of Love”. Sighnaghi is a rare example of an historic city which kept its style through the centuries, fall in love and feel loved with Georgia. Proceed to Gurjaani and visit an old wine-cellar in a farmer’s house, where people still keep wine the same way as their ancestors did centuries ago. Here visitors will be given the chance to participate in the baking process of traditional bread "SHOTI" in the clay oven and taste "CHACHA" (Georgian vodka). At lunch alongside other dishes you will taste the Georgian delicacy “MTSVADI” – meat barbecued on burning vine branches. Afterwards continue to Telavi. Hotel accommodation and overnight.

Day 3: Telavi – Tsinandali - Gremi – Tbilisi

After breakfast, visit a food market in Telavi where stalls are loaded with fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, spices and drinks. Proceed to Tsinandali - a village noted for the surrounding estate and its historic winery that belonged to the 19th-century aristocratic poet Alexander Chavchavadze. You will have an excursion in the family museum and a walk in the park beautifully laid out in an English style with fine views and exotic plants. Afterwards, wine tasting in Tsinandali Wine Factory, where a collection of the best and oldest Georgian wines is kept. The next spot is Gremi Monastery, the 16th century architectural monument – the royal citadel and the Church of the Archangels. In the evening drive to Tbilisi. Hotel accommodation and overnight.

Day 4: TbilisiMtskheta –Mukhrani – Ambrolauri

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia – Mtskheta (3000 years old) and see its historical places: Jvari church (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) where the Robe of Christ is buried. Both Jvari and Svetitskhoveli are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Proceed to “Chateau Mukhrani” winery. An excursion in Prince Bagrationi’s castle with its gardens, stable, antique cellars, amphitheater and vineyards. After lunch and wine tasting, drive to Racha - one of the most beautiful highland regions of Georgia. This region is famous for Khvanchkara semi-sweet red wine. Dinner in a local farmer’s house with delicious food and wine. Staying in private houses is a great way for everyone to learn local traditions and customs. Overnight in Ambrolauri.

Day 5: Ambrolauri – Kutaisi

After breakfast visit the settlement of Bugeuli, the Aleksandreuli Company. The leading wines of Khvanchkara, Alexandreuli and Tetra are produced here. You’ll have Khvanchkara wine tasting. The main places of tourists' interest are concentrated in this district as well. After the excursion you will visit Nikortsminda - a domed church built in 1010-1014 by King Bagrat III, one of the most beautifully carved cathedral in Georgia. You will enjoy a short rest in the fresh air of the splendid Lake Shaori. Drive to Kutaisi and stay overnight in hotel accommodation.

Day 6: KutaisiTbilisi

Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing tour in Kutaisi – one of the ancient cities in the world (3500 years), the town of Golden Fleece. We visit 11th century Bagrati Church and 12th century Gelati Complex – three churches, the academy which was the centre of cultural and spiritual life and the grave of David the Builder, founder of the complex and the most eminent king in Georgian history. Both Bagrati and Gelati are UNESCO World Heritage sites. After lunch we visit “Prometheus” cave –one of the richest dimension of forms (stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, lakes etc.) Drive to Tbilisi. On the way, visit the village of Shrosha, where there is a large handmade ceramics market. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 7: Departure

Transfer from the hotel to the airport and departure.
