"Rtveli" in Georgia

Rtveli - vintage

This tour is for true gourmets and wine lovers. During the tour you will visit Kakheti region, which is the center of Georgian viticulture and winemaking. You will have a unique opportunity to participate in grapes squeezing  and wine making, to get "first-hand" information about this beverage and its production methods in different parts of Georgia, as well as about relict varieties famous local wines.

Day 1 - Tbilisi

Arrival at Tbilisi International Airport. Transfet to a hotel. Accomodation. Spare time.

Day 2: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Tbilisi

Breakfast. Head to Mtskheta - an ancient capital of Georgia, important religious centre and city-museum which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Along the way we will stop for visiting the Jvari Monastery. This well-known monastery is located on the top of the mountain, at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. Then we head to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral which is known as a place where Christ’s robe was buried. Walk along the narrow streets of Mtskheta. Return to Tbilisi.

Sightseeing tour around the city includes the sights listed below:

  • Metekhi Church is the symbol of Tbilisi. It was built in XII century, under the legend queen Tamara was praying here.
  • Narikala Fortress - the most famous and ancient monument of Tbilisi antiquity, the locals call her "Soul of the City." The whole city is in front of it at a glance. The fortress is situated on Sololpakski ridge, climb is high enough, but even older people who climbe there to pray at the holy place, say they do not feel fatigue.
  • Then we will visit important historical part of the city- Abanotubani district,, where the well-known sulfur baths are located. It is here where the story of construction of Tbilisi begins, because "tbili" in Georgian means "warm". When king Gorgasali discovered these springs he gave an order to build the city here. In olden times magical healing properties were attributed to these springs, but now everyone knows the profits of Sulfur Baths.
  • Walk along the Shardeni street. Its restoration was begun several years ago and the street was supposed to be the town of masters like Montmartre (Paris), but now it is rather the Champs Elysees with numerous restaurants and cafes, boutiques and a few salons.
  • Walk over the Bridge of Peace – it is a foot-bridge over the river Mtkvari. The bridge is beautiful during both the day and night hours,   because it has a very special interactive display system. The Bridge of Peace of Tbilisi is in the list of the great bridges in the world.
  • Visit of the mountain Mtatsminda, where the famous park "Funicular" is located. You will be amazed with the view of Tbilisi that this park offers.

Supper at a restaurant in the evening with the show programme. Transfer to a hotel. Overnight.

Day 3: Tbilisi - Bodbe - Signaghi - Gurjaani - Kvareli

Breakfast at a hotel.Set for the fatherland of wine - Eastern Georgia - Kakheti.Visit the Bodbe convent where the St. Nino’s grave is located. It has medicinal spring where bathing for pilgrims is organized.Then we visit city Signaghi - the city of love, which is famous for its unique architecture. Then we head to Gurjaani. Dinner. Here you will have a master class on cooking khinkali and georgian bread. Move to Kvareli.

There is a little place in Khakheti called Kindzmarauli, which gave its name to the famous Georgian wine. It is located at the foot of the Caucasus mountains in Alazani Valley that created specific natural and climatic conditions. Here we will visit one of the most famous Kindzmarauli factories. You will be introduced to how the real Georgian wine is made. And of course wine tasting, the taste of which you will never forget! Accomodation at a hotel.

Day 4:  Kvareli - Tsinandali - Telavi - Napareuli - Gremi - Kvareli

Breakfast. Tsinandali- famous viticultural village of Kakheti and wine-making centre, where the ancestral estate of the same name of the Chavchavdze is located. The estate is Chavchavadze house-museum now, where interiors, furniture and personal belongings of the princes are still preserved. House- museum is surrounded by a lush park with a chapel where Alexander Griboyedov  married to princess Nina Chavchavadze.  Proceed to Telavi - Telavi is a historical capital and administrative center of Kakheti region. Tour of Alaverdi - Cathedral of the first quarter of the XI century, the height of the cathedral is about 50 m, the height of the interior space is more than 42 meters. Before Tsminda Sameba was built Alavedi Cathedral church building had been the highest in Georgia. The cathedral preserved paintings of XV century. Alaverdi Cathedral submitted for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Set for Napareuli.

Old wine cellar restored by twin brothers is located in the historic village Napareuli, Kakheti region. "Marani" territory includes a gated wine cellar, cellar where the wine is aging, a room for wine bottling and open wine cellar, «Zavodi» - for the manufacture of vodka. Winemaking is based on family traditions that originate in Napareuli in the old wine cellar, and this tradition continued for generations over the years. Wine is made in accordance with the Kakhetian methods - in pottery, which gives the wine a special delicate flavor and aroma. Wine is filtered and isn' t treated chemically.

Here you will take part in "Rtveli" - we will squeeze the grapes, cook tatars and churchkhela.

Day 5: Kvareli - Gremi – Ikalto – Tbilisi

Breakfast. Visit of the first residence of the kings of Kakheti - Gremi. The fortress is located in the same city, and was the royal residence and the bustling market town of Great Silk Road. Visiting the museum. During archaeological excavations on the territory fo the Gremi museum daggers and ornaments belonging to the Bronze Age, items with images of animals, bowl of IV century depicting the hand of St. George, and more was found and now exhibited in the Gremi museum. There is another showroom, located in the building of the royal palace, which displays works by the artist Levan Chogoshvili from the series "Portraits of kings."

Visiting the Ikalto monastery fonded by Rev. Zenon Ikaltiyski in the VI century near the village Ikalto. In this complex there is current church where for the worship relics of its founder are exhibited - the Rev. Zenon Ikaltiyski. The monastery had its own academy, founded in XII century by David the Builder and is therefore one of the cultural centers of Georgia. There had been teaching the famous philosopher Arsene Ikaltoeli, one of his students was a great poet Shota Rustaveli.

Return to Tbilisi. Accomodation at a hotel.

Day 6: Tbilisi

Free day.

Day 7 – Tbilisi

Breakfast. Check out before 12:00. Transfet to the Airport. Departure.
