Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

Borjomi National Park (better Borjomi-Kharagauli) - is the first national park in the Caucasus. It was opened in 1995 with the help of any Fund and the German government. Now it covers an area of 85,000 hectares and is considered one of the largest in Europe. Park is restored according to all European notions: paths are made, space for camping, picnics, outdoor fireplace, small houses for the night, and so on. The rangers are constantly on duty in the park riding - just in case.

Day 1: Arrival to Tbilisi

Pick-up from Tbilisi International Airport, transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Tbilisi Mtskheta Gori- Borjomi

Breakfast. We drive to Mtskheta – the oldest capital and religious heart of Georgia and visit Jvari and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Then we proceed to Samtskhe-Javakheti region and at first we visit mineral water park where you can savor the famous water of Borjomi. Walking along the river leads to its source (3 km), where you can also see the sulfur water pool. Afterwards we visit the Summer Palace of the Russian Tsar in Likani. We camp in the park.

Day 3: Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

Breakfast.We begin our enjoyable walk in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, which is one of the largest parks in Europe (WWF). It covers more than 85.000 hectares of native forest and sub-alpine and alpine meadows, home to rare species of flora and fauna. From Mt.Lomismta (2100 m) we get excellent views of the Caucasus Mountains. Overnight in the ranger’s shelter.

Day 4: Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

Breakfast. We continue hiking to Marelisi Village. It is a prosperous community where we will have a possibility to see traditional rural activities comprising wine making, bee keeping and traditional crafts. After 7-8 hours we arrive at the ranger’s shelter. Sleeping in the tents.

Day 5: Kvabiskhevi – Vardzia – Akhaltsikhe

Breakfast. A careful and tiring walk will take us down to Kvabiskhevi valley. In the afternoon we drive to Vardzia Cave Town, which was constructed in the XII-XIII centuries by Queen Tamar. Originally it was planned as a town-fortress, but later the complex converted into well defended monastery and important political, cultural, educational and spiritual center of the country. On the way to Vardzia we will also visit one of the oldest fortress - Khertvisi. In the evening we arrive in Akhaltsikhe. Overnight in Akhaltsikhe.

Day 6: Akhaltsikhe – Tbilisi

Breakfast. We travel to Tbilisi. In the afternoon we have time to visit Old Town, with its churches, memorials, well-known sulfur baths, wooden houses with carved balconies and 4th century Narikala Fortress with great panoramic views of the city. Goodbye dinner in Georgian restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 7: Departure

Transfer to Tbilisi International Airport
